Broken links on your website can lead to a frustrating user experience and missed revenue opportunities. What’s more, they’re not easily identifiable and they take time and resources to manually update.
Dynamic Link Optimization is a solution that automatically optimizes 404, out-of-stock, and inactive merchant links to ensure you can continue to driving revenue from your content.
To take advantage of Dynamic Link Optimization, you need to enable it in the Publisher Hub via Advanced Settings. Dynamic Link Optimization is available to all publishers with the Skimlinks JavaScript installed.
How does Dynamic Link Optimization work?
Fixing 404 page links
When a reader clicks a broken link that lands them on a 404 page, Dynamic Link Optimization will automatically redirect them to either the merchant’s home page or the relevant category page. This improves the user experience by providing them with the option to purchase a similar product from the merchant and as the publisher, you’ll still get commission for any purchase they make.
Note: 404 Page optimization is available globally.
Fixing out-of-stock links
When a reader clicks on a product link, Skimlinks knows if the product is in stock. If it’s out-of-stock, Dynamic Link Optimization will automatically redirect the reader to an alternative merchant where the product is available. This creates a great user experience because the reader can still purchase the product, plus you’ll still earn revenue from the sale.
Note: Out-of-stock page optimization is available in the US only.
Fixing Inactive Merchants
Sometimes, a merchant’s affiliate program can become inactive – and when this happens, publishers are not rewarded for the sales they generate. When a reader clicks on a link, Skimlinks knows if the program is active and if it isn’t, the link will be optimized and directed to an alternative merchant with the same product with an active affiliate program. This ensures that the reader can purchase the product they want and the publisher is still rewarded for the sale.
Note: Inactive merchant mink optimization is available in the US only.
Can I control which merchants are featured?
We know how important it is for you to have control over the links in your content and with Dynamic Link Optimization, you have total control over what is being optimized.
To ensure the best user experience, where a publisher has an article or a buy button that mentions a merchant’s name, we will not optimize any links on that page. We do this by default , but there is an option for you to override this within the settings.
Where a publisher has a link, page or merchant that they don’t want to have optimized, they can also control this within the settings page. It’s easy to add and remove at any time.
