How are sales tracked?

Sales are typically tracked using cookies. Each affiliate program is set up differently with its own cookie, which determines the time period you are eligible to receive a commission after a user clicks on a link.

If a user clicks on a link and the cookie period is 30 days, and they make a purchase on that merchant's site within 30 days of clicking on your link (without clicking on any other affiliate links or entering the site via another marketing channel such as a newsletter, search engine, etc.), you will receive a commission for their purchase. If you do not receive a commission, there are various reasons why this may happen, which you can find here.

While we typically see a 30-day cookie lifespan, this can vary according to each merchant's terms.

It's important to note that Skimlinks itself does not drop cookies on the publisher’s users. However, since we work with tens of thousands of merchants through their affiliate network partners, these networks may drop a cookie in order to track a sale linked to a click sent through Skimlinks. The affiliate and ad networks that collaborate with Skimlinks use their own cookies to track if a sale has occurred. Most of these parties will only pay publishers when a referral is successful, meaning a sale is completed. We do not control or have access to these cookies, as they are dropped by the affiliate and ad networks via Skimlinks Enabled Sites.
