A Product Key is a unique technical identifier required exclusively for Managed accounts to authenticate API requests. For the vast majority of publishers using standard tools like JavaScript or the Link Generator, a Product Key is NOT required and will not be visible in your settings.
Do I need a Product Key?
- Standard Users (Growth Tier): No. If you use the Skimlinks JavaScript, the WordPress plugin, or the Link Generator, your installation is fully functional without a key. You do not need to enter anything in this field to track sales.
- Advanced Users (Managed Tier): Yes. Technical teams only require a Product Key if they are programmatically pulling data via the Skimlinks API or using a custom-built integration.
How to find your Product Key (Managed Only)
If you are a Managed partner and require a key for an API integration:
- Log in to the Publisher Hub.
- Navigate to Settings > Account.
- Look for the field labeled "Product Key".
- Action: If this field is not visible or empty, it means you are in the Growth tier. Our support team cannot manually issue Product Keys to Growth tier accounts.
Product Key vs. Publisher ID
It is common to confuse these two identifiers. Here is the difference:
- Publisher ID: A 5- or 6-digit number (e.g., 12345). Everyone has one. You need this for support and general setup. [Where can I locate my Publisher ID?].
- Product Key: A long, technical authentication string. Only for Managed accounts. You only need this if you are writing code for an API.
