If you continue to see clicks redirecting through Skimlinks after removing our JavaScript, it is most likely due to browser caching, hard-coded affiliate links, or external content like social media posts that still contain Skimlinks-shortened URLs.
Common Reasons for Persistent Redirects
Skimlinks does not "track" your site without the script. If redirects occur, check these sources:
- Browser Caching: Your browser may have cached an older version of your website. Clear your browser cache and cookies to see the live, script-free version of your site.
- Hard-Coded Links: If you manually used the Link Generator or the Editor Toolbar to create specific links, those URLs are permanent. They will continue to redirect until you manually replace them with standard URLs.
- External Content: Social media posts (Instagram, Facebook), newsletters, or RSS feeds that were sent while the script was active will still contain the redirect links.
Resolution: How to completely stop redirects
Follow these three steps to ensure no further traffic flows through Skimlinks:
- Verify Removal: View your website's source code and search for "skimlinks" to ensure the <script> tag is 100% gone from the header and footer.
- Server-Side Cache: If you use a plugin like WP Rocket or a CDN like Cloudflare, purge all caches to ensure the script-free version is being served to users.
- Identify the Source: If a specific link is still redirecting, check if it is a shortened URL (e.g., smuk.io or skimbit). These links must be manually updated as they are not controlled by the JavaScript.
Status: If the script is removed and your caches are purged, no new Skimlinks redirects can be generated. No further technical ticket is required to "deactivate" the server.
